These are the original Japan made unbleached filters without tab as you can see in the picture (up aside their box). For comparison down is the same filter but bleached, to the right is the Holland made Hario filter, with tab and to the left a Hario filter that I bought from a local coffee shop ( supposed to be Japan made but I believe older or from a different factory?).
I have tried all these filters. The filters from Hario Holland seem to be of lower quality paper and brewing time is definitely extended in comparison with Japan made filters. So the result is different. Other Hario filters like those to the left are way lower quality.
When I started brewing v60 I used the original Japan unbleached filters then for the last year or so I found and used the same but oxygen bleached Japan filters and I was very happy with the result and i perfected my technique. When they were nearly over i found and bought again the unbleached filters and in comparison to the previous i think the coffee is definitely better especially in flavor. The brewing time as expected is the same with the bleached Japan filters.
So in my opinion :
1.these filters are the best Hario you will find
2. Holland made filters are definitely lower quality
3. Any other filters (Hario from unknown origin) suck !
Now as I said before there are Japan Hario filters that are different and low quality. You can recognize the good filters by the following features:
1. They come boxed as in my picture
2. They do not have tabs
3. They are Japan made
4. Code is VCF-02-100MK (for 02 size and 100 pieces in the box). The same but white bleached I had were VCF-02-40W (40 pieces in the box)
*The cons are that they are difficult to find and that they are more expensive.
Update 12/03/2023: Lately I use again white filters from Japan, with tabs and boxed, as shown at the 2nd picture and I think that my coffee is better in flavor and with more balanced taste than the unbleached ones. Bottom line definitely prefer Japan boxed filters instead of European ones.
The above reflect my own personal opinion and experience as also more than 4 years experimenting with V60 brewing which I do not regret. I hope I helped.
